Runners of all abilities are being invited to take part in North Derbyshire’s newest 10K race whilst supporting Ashgate Hospicecare.
The Redbrik Foundation Chesterfield 10K is coming to Chesterfield town centre on Sunday 17th October, starting at 10am.
Ashgate has been announced as one of the event’s charity partners, and participants are being urged to raise money to help fund the charity’s vital end of life services.
The route will start and finish in Queen’s Park and will see runners embark around the heart of Chesterfield, heading past landmarks including the town’s famous Crooked Spire.
Among those taking part is Police Analyst, Shannon Tighe, who is braving her first 10K in memory of her grandad, Maxwell Tighe, and friend’s mum, Claire Sivorn, both cared for by Ashgate Hospicecare over the last 12 months.
So far, the 25-year-old has already doubled her fundraising target of £250 and hopes she can raise more than £600 in total.
Shannon, from Walton, Chesterfield, said: “I wanted to run the Chesterfield 10K in support of Ashgate because of the fantastic work it does for so many people, but especially because the hospice helped my grandad and friends mum, Claire, in the last year.
“Ashgate did an amazing job of taking care of them both and I signed up to the run so I can help to give something back.
“This will be my first proper running event and is a huge challenge for me! Prior to signing up I had never run more than 5km before and I am not a lover of exercise in any way.
“I’m surprisingly excited for race day and generally feeling good – albeit very nervous. Hopefully, the nervous energy will help me run faster on the day!”
Savannah Redhead, Event Fundraiser at Ashgate Hospicecare, said: “A huge thank you to everyone who is running the first ever Chesterfield 10K to help raise funds so we can continue to care for people across North Derbyshire living with a life limiting illness.
“It’s thanks to people like Shannon – running in memory of her grandad – that we’re able to be there for the patients and families who need us most.
“The Chesterfield 10K promises to be a fun and challenging event for everyone involved – whether you’re taking part or helping us as a volunteer. We hope to see you there on the day!”
Entry into the 2021 Redbrik Foundation Chesterfield 10k closes on October 3rd and costs £22.50 per person.
