Why we need your support
Shopping with us or donating items for us to sell helps fund our compassionate care.
Audrey Garlick found that she was at a loose end in her life and decided she wanted to give something back to the community, so she started volunteering at Ashgate Hospice.
Three years down the line, she’s a proud member of the Dronfield shop team and fits volunteering around her business of baking and designing bespoke cakes.
She urges anyone who finds themselves with spare time to volunteer in one of the hospice’s shops – insisting “you won’t regret it!”
Audrey said: “I wanted to give something back to the community and do something to help others.
“Volunteering in Ashgate’s shop was perfect for me. I love everything about it, I really do – I look forward to the days I go in and the customers who I get to meet.
“I’m so happy when I’m volunteering and at the end of the day, I really feel like I’m giving something back and get a huge sense of satisfaction from it.
“At the shop, I get involved in everything from tidying the displays, pricing up items and welcoming our wonderful supporters who generously make donations to us.
“It’s so rewarding knowing I’m doing my bit to support care for families all over North Derbyshire. I get on so well with the staff and other volunteers in the shop and we’re always having a laugh and joke! I couldn’t recommend volunteering for Ashgate Hospice enough.”
Anyone who is interested in volunteering can go to ashgatehospice.org.uk/volunteering and fill in the Volunteer Enquiry Form.
Alternatively, pop into your local shop and ask to speak to the shop manager about volunteering. You can find your nearest shop below.
