Ashgate Hospice > Staff and volunteers on our Inpatient Unit mark Falls Awareness Week

Staff on our Inpatient Unit got involved with Falls Awareness Week, which took place from 18th – 24th September 2023. During the week, our Inpatient Unit shared information for staff, volunteers, patients and families on preventing falls.

As part of Falls Awareness Week, staff took part in the nationwide pledge to come up with three actions on how they would stop a fall.

One pledge included:

  • ensure patients’ belongings are within reach
  • ensure footwear is suitable
  • check falls risk assessment is correct.

These might seem like small things, but they can make a big difference.

We have reduced the number of falls by taking actions, including:

  • introducing a daily patient safety huddle
  • ensuring regular safety checks are in place
  • introducing non-slip socks for our patients.

We’re committed to keeping our patients safe. As part of this, we will continue to educate staff, volunteers, patients and families on preventing falls.

Well done to our Inpatient Unit team for spreading the word and taking part in Falls Awareness Week!
