Ashgate Hospice > Wedding blessing arranged in 24 hours so bride’s mother could witness special moment

We were incredibly honoured to have been able to organise a wedding blessing for a lovely couple last week.

Abbie and Matt are due to get married next year, but wanted to do something special so Abbie’s mum, Katherine, could witness the special union between them both.

Katherine has been receiving care from us on our Inpatient Unit, but received the news that her prognosis wasn’t good. Within 24 hours, our amazing staff arranged for a wedding blessing to take place in our garden room, where Abbie and Matt could share their commitments to each other in front of their parents.

Abbie, Matt and Katherine’s husband, Mike, said the following about the day:

“Thank you so much to Ashgate Hospice for making a very special day happen, a day which we did not think we’d be able to get with my mum. In less than 24 hours the fundraising team arranged a mini wedding for us, with a photographer, cake, flowers and a spread for my family to enjoy. This was a very special day which we will remember forever.

“Thank you to the staff and companies that made this happen for us. An especially big thanks to the ward staff who are continuously caring for my mum day and night.

Love Abbie, Mike and Matt x”

We want to say a huge thank you to the following businesses who helped make Abbie and Matt’s wedding blessing possible:
Fresh Ideas Florists, who supplied, two bouquets, five buttonholes and a gorgeous table top.
Tom Hodgson Photography, who took beautiful photographs of the blessing.
Max Spielmann at Tesco Extra in Chesterfield, who printed photographs free of charge for us to give to Abbie and Matt.
Oh Crumbs for sandwiches for a buffet afterwards with close family and friends.
The Britannia Inn, Brampton who loaned chairs to us free of charge.
– John Plant MBE of G.W.Price Ltd for covering food costs.

We wish Abbie and Matt a long and happy union together.
