Experienced palliative care consultants are being encouraged to apply for a new role leading the medical operation at Ashgate Hospice.
The outstanding-rated hospice, which provides palliative and end of life care across North Derbyshire, is advertising for the role of Medical Director and applications are being accepted until 31st December.
Ashgate is looking for a professional to not only play a vital role in medical leadership, but also to support the charity in its evolution towards a research active hospice.
The post is predominantly community-based for clinical activity, but the role will provide a senior cross-cover with other elements of Ashgate’s medical services to cover sickness and absence.

Barbara-Anne Walker, Chief Executive at Ashgate Hospice, said: “We are passionate and ambitious about what we do and the people who need our care.
“We are investing in our medical capacity to ensure that we can provide high-quality, evidence-based care and education that meets the evolving needs of our patients and their families, and to make Ashgate a great place to work.”
The post holder will be employed by Chesterfield Royal Hospital but based at Ashgate Hospice in Old Brampton, Chesterfield.
It comes as Sarah Parnacott, Consultant and latterly Medical Director at the hospice, prepares to step down from her position after 21 years ahead of her retirement at the end of the year.
“Ashgate Hospice has always been a forward-thinking and progressive organisation,” added Sarah.
“We have strived to provide exemplary palliative care to the local community, constantly evolving our services to embrace progress and developments in modern medicine.
“The hospice is now looking for a dynamic medical leader to continue our legacy of amazing care and to help us meet our ambitions including growing and developing our research capabilities.
“It is an inspirational place to work, and my clinical colleagues and the wider hospice team will give the successful candidate the phenomenal support that I have enjoyed during my tenure.”
The hospice has a medically-led Inpatient Unit with 15 beds offering active treatments to patients in the palliative phase of their illness within a hospice setting.
It also offers a large multi-disciplinary community team providing care to patients at home, and a thriving Day Services offer complemented by a suite of psychosocial therapies.
This year, Ashgate launched one of the first Virtual Palliative Care Wards in the UK, which allows the charity to care for incredibly sick and unstable patients to their own homes if this is their choice.
