Ashgate Hospice > Tribute to former Ashgate Hospice trustee, Alderman Terry Gilby

We are deeply saddened to hear of the death of former trustee, Alderman Terry Gilby.

Terry served as a trustee of Ashgate Hospice from 2001 until 2018. During this time, he was active in our workforce and personnel governance, as well as major service developments including the Day Services extension and the Harry Fisher building refurbishment. His dedication, wisdom and kindness helped to shape the hospice through a time of great change, and his contribution will always be remembered with deep appreciation.

Jean Horton, former Chair of Trustees and Ashgate patron, said: “It was an absolute privilege to work alongside Terry as a colleague and a friend, particularly in his role as Vice Chair of the Board of Trustees.

“Whatever Terry was asked to do, he undertook it with total commitment and always so willingly. He fulfilled his role as a Trustee with unswerving loyalty, using every tool at his disposal to support and move the hospice forward. His passion for the hospice was very clear to see. Terry was a great ambassador for Ashgate.

“I personally valued his time, support and very sound advice – always given so freely and in a caring and balanced way. I will remember Terry with great respect, affection and enormous gratitude for his work for our hospice.”

Our thoughts are with Terry’s wife, Councillor Tricia Gilby, his family, and all who knew and cared for him.
