Ashgate Hospice > Ashgate Hospice shuttle bus service

The service is designed to make travelling to and from the hospice easier, particularly if getting to Old Brampton is difficult. The shuttle bus is run by trained volunteer drivers, who give their time to help people get to and from the hospice.

 

What the service offers
  • A shuttle service between Chesterfield town centre and Ashgate Hospice in Old Brampton
  • Available on Fridays (excluding bank holidays)
  • Open to patients, carers and visitors
  • Travel must be booked in advance by contacting Ashgate’s Day Services on 01246 568 801
  • Please note there is a step up onto the minibus. A brief mobility check will be completed at the time of booking
  • We’re unable to provide physical assistance getting on or off the bus

 

What to expect on the day
  • You’ll be welcomed by one of our volunteer drivers, who will take you from Chesterfield town centre to the hospice
  • Pick-up is from Stand B8, New Beetwell Street, Chesterfield town centre (outside the Portland Hotel)
  • Drop-off is at Main Reception at Ashgate Hospice
  • Return journeys will drop you back at the same location on New Beetwell Street
  • There may be a short wait while the bus arrives

If you travel to the hospice on the morning service, you are welcome to return at either 12.30pm or 3.00pm, depending on what works best for your appointment or visiting time.

 

Please be aware
  • Please arrive in good time before the scheduled departure
  • We kindly ask that you and anyone travelling with you do not smoke near the bus, out of consideration for others
  • If the bus has not arrived, please call Ashgate’s Day Services team on 01246 568 801
  • We are not automatically notified of changes to hospice appointments, so please let us know if your plans change

 

Who can use the service
  • The service is available to patients, carers and visitors
  • All journeys must be booked in advance
  • You must be able to step up and down from the minibus safely without assistance
  • Please note there is no ramp or grab bars
  • You must be able to wear a seatbelt
  • You will be asked to consent to sharing your name and phone number with the volunteer driver

What if I need to cancel my booking?

Please call Ashgate’s Day Services team on 01246 568 801 as soon as possible. 

Can I bring someone with me?

Yes, you can book more than one place, as long as there is space. If the minibus becomes full, we may need to prioritise places and would contact you to talk this through.

What if I’m running late?

If you’re delayed, please call Ashgate’s Day Services. We’ll either ask the driver to wait, if possible, or look at an alternative travel time.
