Event details

Come onboard the Virtual Christmas Challenge! Collectively, we are going to run, walk, swim and cycle our way to the North Pole, and go the distance of 2,167 miles to bring festive cheer to the patients both at the hospice and out in the community.

Event date: 24th November – 24th December 2021

We’re hoping that you can help us to receive the items on our Christmas list to Santa this year:

£6 could pay for a Christmas dinner with all the trimmings for a patient.
£18 could pay for a 1-hour visit from a Community Nurse in a patient’s home over the festive period.
£30 could pay  for our Day Services patients to enjoy a Christmas themed virtual get together, and receive a pack filled with Christmas goodies, and craft materials for them to join a virtual Christmas crafting session with our Activities Coordinator.

Why don’t you go the distance to bring festive cheer to Ashgate patients? Sign up here! Everybody that raises £50 or more will receive a festive treat that will be available to collect from the hospice. Please note, in order to receive this, you must have raised your £50 and handed it in (or it have come in online) by Monday 10th January 2022.

We have come up with various different ideas to help you raise vital funds for Ashgate Hospice, please click here for more information. Every £1 raised will make a huge difference. So, thank you for your support. We wouldn’t be here without it.

FAQ's

Ashgate to the North Pole
I want to take part in the challenge but I’m unsure of what to do..

To get involved, set yourself a target distance and then run, walk, swim or cycle it throughout the festive period to help us get to the North Pole in time for Christmas. As long as you use Strava to track your activity or log it later (don’t worry – the registration process will guide you through this!) the choice is yours.   Please note that Strava can only track distance and not steps, so any activity that you do, you must cover a distance in order for it to be logged.

How do I sign up to this event?

Our easy, simple registration process will guide you through creating your Ashgate to the North Pole account and linking a Strava account if you wish to so you can track your distance throughout the challenge. If you have any issues setting up your account, please get in touch via events@ashgatehospice.org.uk

Will there be a fee to take part?

No, it’s free entry for this event. We just ask that you create a fundraising page when you sign up to the event, and share it with your friends, family and peers to get them sponsors coming in, to ensure that our patients can have a lovely Christmas period.

Who can take part in this event?

Everyone! Similar to our Virtual Sparkle Night, anybody that wants to take on the challenge is able to.  Get the whole family involved to support Ashgate Hospice and take on an activity throughout the festive period that is a challenge for your abilities.

How old do you have to be to sign up to Ashgate to the North Pole?

Any age, however, we are asking anybody that is under the age of 17 to gain permission from their parent/guardian.

Can you join the event even when it’s started?

Yes, of course, the more the merrier! Please feel free to join at any time throughout the challenge, and help us to reach the North Pole in time for Christmas.

If I join a team, can I still also take part as an individual?

Absolutely! You’ll be able to see how you compare to your teammates and everyone else on your profile page.

What is the minimum sponsorship?

There is no minimum sponsorship amount, but we’d encourage you to set yourself a target to add to your challenge. This matters even more at Christmas time, we want to ensure that our patients can have a wonderful time alongside being cared for.

When do I need to hand my sponsorship money in by?

All sponsorship money must be received by Ashgate Hospice by Tuesday 15th February 2022. If you have set up an online fundraising page, the sponsorship money that you have raised will automatically be sent to us, so you don’t need to do anything. If you have collected any offline sponsorship money, please pay it on online where possible or call us on 01246 567250 to pay it in over the phone. Alternatively, you can bring it into the Hospice, but please do pay it in online or over the phone where you can.
