A way to remember of someone special

Amanda Griffiths – Victor’s daughter

“I will forever treasure the memory of the two of us sitting together in dad’s room, peacefully watching the birds on the feeders outside. Sometimes when I visited, I’d catch him singing along to his records or sharing stories with staff about his younger days.

“He shared his sense of humour with anyone who walked into his room too – no matter how poorly he felt. One day, he even got the staff and volunteers doing the conga! Sadly, dad deteriorated quickly, and when the time came to say goodbye, the hospice team helped fulfil his wish to be at home with his family.

“I miss dad so much, and I think about him every day. My nana is forever in my heart too. So I’m remembering them both through Ashgate Hospice’s Forget-Me-Not Appeal.”

Your donation will make a real difference

Karen Esposito is dedicating a flower in memory of her dad, Tony Jackson, who was cared for by the hospice at the end of his life.

“The physiotherapists took him for walks around the grounds, which he loved. We received regular home visits from the specialist nurse and the consultant, and through this we felt respected, looked after, and listened to.

“I especially remember the much-needed humour in the face of a terrifying disease. Ashgate made Dad feel as comfortable as he possibly could be.

“He passed away at Ashgate in December 2021. We weren’t there with him when he passed away – I had gone home for a rest, expecting to see him again the next day – so it was such a comfort to speak to the two wonderful nurses who were holding his hands for us.

“The staff are special at Ashgate. They are skilled, compassionate, and open. I honestly do not know how we would have managed without them; we all have an increased respect for the work they do and the need for the specialised approach that is needed for people who are at very vulnerable stages of life.”

Why is the display at Renishaw Hall?

This year, our forget-me-not flower remembrance display will be situated at the beautiful site of Renishaw Hall, a 400-year-old, Grade II listed estate and gardens located in the countryside surrounding Eckington, Derbyshire. As a hospice who cares for patients and families across the whole of North Derbyshire, we wanted to take the opportunity to celebrate the community of patients and families we care for in and around Eckington by bringing our beautiful forget-me-not remembrance display here. We hope you will be able to join us at the display this year.

Will I have the chance to personalise my flower?

This year, we will display the names of all those being remembered at the display at Renishaw Hall. Later this year, we will also be offering an additional way to personalise your forget-me-not flower, so keep an eye on our website and social media pages for more details about this!
