A full list of the 2022 road closures in some areas of Chesterfield on Saturday 9th July 2022, from 7pm – 4am
The Ashgate Hospice Sparkle Night Walk is North Derbyshire’s biggest fundraising event of the year. It is a 10km walk around Chesterfield that will take place on Saturday 9th July 2022, starting at Chesterfield FC’s Technique Stadium. After returning to a physical event in 2021, we are excited to make it even bigger and better in 2022!
Participants are asked to arrive from 7.30pm to explore our event village, get sparkled by our lovely face painters and enjoy our amazing entertainment. This year, everyone will set off together at 10pm.
We will need to follow all government guidance and restrictions that may be in place at the time of the event.
There will be a limit to the total number of participants, we will review this in the lead up to the event. However, we are hoping to increase the event capacity back up to 3000 people.
No, this year we will take you through Storforth Lane trading estate, past our furniture store and our new fundraising hub.
The event will finish once the last walkers have crossed the finish line; this is normally around 12:30am. You should allow between 90 – 120 minutes to complete the course depending on your walking speed. If you or any of your party are struggling to finish the walk, then please let a marshal know, and we can collect you and take you to the finish line in the support vehicle.
There will be parking available at the Technique Stadium for £1 to encourage car sharing and a pickup and drop-off area. We will have car park marshalls on hand to guide you.
Yes, there will be a range of sparkly merchandise that you can purchase on the night. This will also be available for you to purchase at T-shirt collection beforehand.
Yes, the tag this year will be stuck to the back of your walker number. When you cross over the start and finish line, this will be registered by sensors in the mats which will check you in and out.
The Honey Belles Choir are back and can’t wait to perform. We’ll also be welcoming local Chesterfield band, The Rooves and Cerys, who wrote a song during lockdown for the hospice, will perform.
Yes, there will be toilets that you are able to use at the Technique Stadium. Once you set off on the walk, there will be several portable toilet stops en route.
Water and snacks will be provided at the refreshment point out on the route. We kindly ask that litter is disposed of properly to keep Chesterfield tidy. Hot drinks and bacon rolls (or a vegan alternative) will be provided at the end of the walk for free, but you may make a small donation to us in one of the buckets provided if you wish to.
Yes, if someone feels like they are unable to continue walking, they can inform one of our marshals who will radio the support vehicle to come and fetch them and take them to the finish.
Yes, first aid cover will be present. If someone requires first aid, or believe another participant does, they should inform their nearest marshal.
Unfortunately, children under 11 are not permitted to take part in the physical event (this also includes babies in pushchairs). Please be aware that children up to the age of 17 will need a parent/guardian’s permission to take part in the event.
Sorry, dogs are not permitted at the physical event. Why not take your pet on a Virtual Sparkle challenge?
We are so grateful for each and every person that gives up their Saturday night to support this amazing event. Please email events@ashgatehospice.org.uk if you are interested in volunteering at this event and a member of our Events Team will be in touch.
