The Peak District

Much of the beautiful Peak District lies here in North Derbyshire, right on our doorstep. You might call us biased but it really is one of the most unique and stunning locations in the UK!

Whether you decide to make home here or opt for city living in Sheffield or Nottingham, you’re only ever a short trip away from the breath-taking views and scenery the Peaks has on offer.

Here at Ashgate, we’re always keen to stress the importance of all our staff and volunteers maintaining a healthy work/life balance. So having something like the Peak District so close is such a great asset to living in North Derbyshire – there’s nothing quite like experiencing fresh air in the great outdoors!

Whether you fancy a stroll around the quaint villages of Edale and Hathersage or a hike up Mam Tor – some of our favourite spots the Peak District has to offer include the lovely town of Castleton, Ladybower Reservoir, Stanage Edge, Hathersage and Bakewill (don’t forget to visit our shop!)

You can find out more about the Peak District here!

Our favourite landmarks

  • The Crooked Spire, also known as Chesterfield Parish Church, is the town’s centre point and you’ll struggle to find a building quite like it anywhere in the UK. The largest church in Derbyshire, its unique twisted spire will certainly have you looking up!

  • Bolsover Castle’s historic grounds and promises spectacular views over Derbyshire and a fun day out for all the family.

  • The Heights of Abraham takes you on a flight up to a 60-acre Hilltop estate with exhibitions, underground cavern tours and spectacular viewpoints.

  • Buxton Opera House is the perfect place to catch a musical, concert or even a comedy show with the venue a year-round programme of entertainment.

  • Chatsworth Estate is home to the Duke and Duchess of Devonshire and the world-famous Chatsworth House, which has been passed down through 16 generations of the Cavendish family. Explore over 25 rooms steeped in history as well as the beautiful gardens. You might have recognised the Estate in films like Pride and Prejudice!

Thank you to our volunteer and professional photographer, Tom Hodgson, for his stunning photos of the Peak District.
