About the role

This is an exciting time to join our award-winning marketing and communications team. The pandemic has seen a change in how and where people work, meaning internal communications is more important than ever.

As a member of our Public Relations team, you will be tasked with engaging with our 340 members of staff and 700 volunteers. This includes those working at home, onsite at Old Brampton and across North Derbyshire at our community hubs, shops and coffee shops.

While our 2021 People Survey showed a big improvement in our internal communications, we are taking nothing for granted. We know there is still much to do.

As the Internal Communications Officer, your role will be to ensure that all of our different internal stakeholders are engaged and involved in our mission, strategy and objectives, that their views are heard and that managers are supported in briefing staff and encouraging two-way dialogue.

The Internal Communications Officer will support the development and delivery of the organisation’s communications strategy and enable all departments of the organisation to deliver key communications to staff, volunteers and stakeholders in a planned and effective way.

You will work collaboratively with the Communications Officer to effectively plan and manage communication campaigns, such as Volunteers Week and draft case studies on volunteers and staff for internal sharing.

You will have excellent writing skills, and already be confident in using Microsoft 365, including SharePoint, Yammer and other key internal communications apps. You will be proactive in your approach to internal communications, continually looking for ways to improve communications with staff and volunteers.

You will report to the Public Relations Manager on internal communications initiatives, work closely with other departments across the organisation and will help us to increase staff and volunteer engagement in our internal satisfaction surveys.

The main responsibilities include:

  • To develop and implement internal communications projects and plans for specific activities to staff, volunteers and other internal stakeholders (including trustees) to meet specified communications objectives and build on areas of improvement as identified in the 2021 People Survey.
  • To help build a culture where two-way internal communication is seen as fundamental and integral to the success of the organisation and its staff and where effective communication is seen as the business of every staff member.
  • Support staff wellbeing and engagement, working closely with the wellbeing lead.
  • Be responsible for the on-going creation, tactical development and measurement of the intranet (SharePoint) and associated digital channels used to support internal communications, creating and advising on content that is engaging, informative and contributes to connecting staff and volunteers to our organisational strategy, leadership team and cause.
  • Be an ambassador for effective digital engagement and facilitate collaboration.

About you:

We are looking for an experienced Internal Communications Officer who has outstanding written communication skills and is competent in using Microsoft 365, including SharePoint and Yammer.
