We have never needed your help more.

Your gift will help more families be with their loved ones when it matters most.

Our care is always in high demand. But this winter we are facing the greatest demand on our services yet. We are preparing for another increase in COVID-19 cases, as well as winter flu, which will mean more beds will be needed for those too unwell to be cared for at home.

Not only that, but we also need to keep our other vital services running so that we can support patients and families at home at all stages of their diagnosis. As the pandemic continues, so does the concern for fundraising the huge amount needed to care for everybody in need this winter.

By making a donation, you’ll be helping Ashgate Hospice provide the care that so many people in our community will need over the coming winter monthsYou’ll also be helping Ashgate take the pressure off our local hospitals this winter.

A gift of £25 will help us do everything we can, through all hours of the day and night, to support people struggling with a life-limiting illness in our community — just as we have for over thirty years.

Please give what you can today – thank you.

Sara's story

Dad’s last wish was to die at home, and that wish was granted by Ashgate Hospice. They also gave me the greatest gift imaginable – precious time with my father in his final days to make lasting memories and say a proper goodbye. Thanks to Ashgate, Dad was comfortable and had the best possible quality of life right up until the end.

Sara, daughter of Alan Slinn – Ashgate Hospice patient.

Winter Appeal
What is the Winter Appeal?

Our Winter Appeal is a direct request for donations to help sustain Ashgate through another difficult winter.

Our compassionate care is always in high demand. But this winter we are facing the greatest demand on our services yet as we prepare for another increase in COVID-19 cases as well as winter flu, which will mean more beds will be needed for those too unwell to be cared for at home. Not only that, we also need to keep our other vital services running so that we can support patients and families at home at all stages of their diagnosis. As the pandemic continues, so does the concern for raising the funds needed to care for everybody in need this winter.

How can I donate?

The easiest way to donate is online.

Those who receive a letter with a donation form can fill this out and send their cash or cheque donation in the freepost envelope provided. Cheques can be made out to ‘Ashgate Hospice’.

It will also be possible to donate in any of our Ashgate Hospice shops across North Derbyshire.

How can I help?

There are lots of different ways you can help. Here are just a few things you can do:

  • Spread the word – The most important thing you can do to help is to let people know that, although we are continuing to deliver safe, compassionate and dignified care to those who need it, we are facing our most difficult winter yet. Demand for our services is set to rise and this will place enormous pressure on the hospice.  In order to make sure that we can keep looking after the most poorly and vulnerable people in our community, we really need support from anyone who can donate. If you speak to a supporter of the hospice or if somebody asks you how we are coping, let them know about the Winter Appeal.
  • Donate – We know that this is a difficult time for everybody and that it’s not possible for everybody to donate now. However, any donation made large or small will be greatly appreciated and will help our dedicated staff to continue their work on the frontline this winter.
  • Fundraise – If it will not be possible for you to donate to the Winter Appeal, there are lots of fun things you can do at home that could help to raise money for the hospice. For example, you could set yourself the challenge of running a number of miles and ask for sponsorship. If you want something less sporty, you could have a bake sale or coffee morning, or host a quiz or game night with your friends! There are loads of fun things you can do, and it will all go towards supporting the hospice through our most difficult winter yet. If you need help with fundraising, you can visit our Fundraising Toolkit or email communityfr@ashgatehospice.org.uk.
