The first Eyam Half Marathon was held in 1993 and became a firm favourite on the road racing calendar. It’s organised by a group of volunteers in Eyam. The half marathon and other fundraising events have so far raised more than £190,000 for local cancer charities and village organisations and Ashgate Hospice are proud to be one of the benefitting charities.
Starting and finishing in the historic plague village of Eyam, you climb over 400 feet in the first two miles before the course levels off over the next three miles as you pass through the hamlets of Bretton and Abney. It’s then an 800ft descent over 4.5 miles towards Hathersage, before a leg and lung sapping 800ft climb over two miles before the last section of the race, culminating in the final 400ft descent back into Eyam.
The Eyam Half Marathon is ranked first in its category by RaceCheck based on the number of reviews and the event’s average rating of 4.89 out of 5 with runners praising the ‘stunning route through glorious countryside, really friendly marshals and a wonderful atmosphere throughout’.
50 ‘walkers only’ places are available. Walkers should start between 7am and 9am and do so at their own risk. All walkers and runners can choose between receiving a finishers Eyam Half Marathon T-shirt or having a tree planted.
