Improving access to hospice care for LGBT+ communities

We recognise that individuals from the LGBT+ community may encounter unique challenges when accessing healthcare, including hospice and end-of-life care, and may also face discrimination in the workplace.

In partnership with Derbyshire LGBT+, we have taken proactive steps to ensure that our hospice is a welcoming and inclusive environment for the LGBT+ community, including those in our care, their loved ones, our workforce, and our valued supporters.

The steps we are taking to become more LGBT+ inclusive:
  • Working in partnership with Derbyshire LGBT+ to achieve their Rainbow Accreditation award
  • Providing comprehensive training to our staff and volunteers
  • Ensuring our premises and facilities are accessible and inclusive
  • Taking part in local Pride celebrations
  • Installing a rainbow crossing outside our hospice as a visible symbol of our commitment to diversity and inclusion

Whilst we are proud of the progress, we know that there is more work to be done. We are committed to continuing our efforts to understand and address any barriers to hospice care that certain individuals and communities may face.

"It means so much to arrive somewhere and see the rainbow. It means I can come here and know that I am welcome. From the flags adorned in the reception, to this vibrant and visual crossing, it shows that I can come here and be myself."
